Food Inflation in Ukraine
According to the NBU, food inflation has rapidly accelerated due to the effects of hot weather with no rainfall during the summer and fall of this year, which impacted yield, ripening times, and quality parameters of food products, particularly for certain vegetables and fruits.
Data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicates that in December 2024, global wholesale prices for key food items were 6.7% higher than a year earlier. At the end of the year, international prices for butter showed the largest decline, ending a 14-month streak of continuous growth due to subdued global demand and accumulated stocks.
