Bank Ratings by Deposits
According to NBU, the state-owned PrivatBank had 24.0 million depositors holding 507 billion hryvnias. In second place is the state-owned Oschadbank with 13.0 million depositors and a total of 208.3 billion hryvnias, followed by the private Universal Bank with 9.0 million depositors and a total of 100.4 billion hryvnias.
Next are banks from foreign banking groups: Raiffeisen Bank with 3.3 million depositors and 77.7 billion hryvnias, and UkrSibBank with 2.3 million depositors and 62.1 billion hryvnias.
Deposit Rates and Currencies
As of December 1, 2024, there were 69.5 million deposits from citizens and individual entrepreneurs in 62 banks participating in the FGWFO, according to NBU.
The majority of deposits were in the national currency: 59.2 million deposits totaling 866 billion hryvnias. There were 10.3 million deposits in foreign currency amounting to 481 billion hryvnias.
Deposit Interest Rates
According to NBU, in November, the average interest rates for new deposits from citizens in banks in hryvnias stood at 9.6% per annum. For foreign currency deposits, banks offer only 1.0% per annum. However, throughout 2024, the dollar exchange rate has increased by 10.7%.
Inflation has already surpassed 10%, and the profitability of bank deposits has failed to keep pace with rising prices.
