This is reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing the statement of Taras Vysotsky, the First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine. This information is also shared by Kontrakty.UA.
Currently, the price of potatoes has remained unchanged for several weeks. Specifically, the wholesale price is 25 hryvnias per kilogram, while the retail price is 30 hryvnias. According to Vysotsky, the price of potatoes will not change further.
Similarly, there are no grounds for the price to increase to 50 hryvnias. This will not happen for at least two reasons. Firstly, the current price should cover the cost of production of potatoes even in conditions of reduced yields. Secondly, this price allows for imports.
Vysotsky noted that an open economy and market in our country enables us to export surplus products. Thanks to such a market, we can also import when there is a shortage. Therefore, when imports of potatoes from Poland and the Baltics began, the price of potatoes rose to 25 hryvnias.
"These are insignificant volumes compared to our production, but these few tens of thousands of tons are enough to stabilize the relatively speculative price increase and stop it," the deputy pointed out.
At the same time, a decrease in the price of potatoes is also unlikely. According to forecasts from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the price may slightly increase closer to spring.
Earlier, we wrote about why egg prices are rising in Ukraine and whether the price will hit a new record. In the summer, eggs could be purchased for 35-40 UAH per dozen, while the average current price reaches 45 UAH.
We remind you that meat prices in Ukraine are gradually increasing. The onset of cold weather and economic factors will affect the future price situation.
