Forecasts for Ukraine's Economic Growth
It should be noted that the Ukrainian economy slowed down in the second quarter of 2024 due to power outages. As a result, the Ministry of Economy downgraded its expectations for Ukraine's gross domestic product growth in 2024 from 4.6% to 3.5%.
Additionally, the Ukrainian government significantly lowered its forecast for economic growth in 2025 to 2.7%. Previously, a growth of 6.8% was anticipated.
The IMF released two scenarios for Ukraine in December. The baseline scenario assumes that the war will end in the fourth quarter of 2025. In this case, Ukraine's economy is expected to grow by 2.5-3.5% the following year. Growth is projected to accelerate to 5.3% in 2026.
The negative scenario suggests that the war will continue until mid-2026. In this case, a GDP decline of 2.5% is forecasted for 2025, along with zero growth in 2026.
