Prices for potatoes in Ukraine have begun to rise again. The primary reason for this is the overall reduction in the supply of local potatoes, as most of the vegetable was sold during the first half of the current season. Reports TSN. This information comes from Kontakty.UA.
This is also reported by EastFruit.
Analysts noted that as a result, potato prices have increased to 20-30 UAH/kg ($0.48-0.71/kg), which is on average 12% higher than at the end of the previous working week.
At the same time, wholesalers are complaining about a shortage of quality potatoes from local producers. Farmers believe that the quality of the vegetable is linked to unfavorable weather conditions during the harvest period.
Potato prices in Ukraine are already on average 16% higher than at the end of January last year. Many market participants are confident that the pace of the price increase for the vegetable will accelerate soon due to information about a possible shortage of quality potatoes.
Earlier, it was reported that the actual consumer inflation in December 2024 exceeded the forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine, and prices are expected to continue rising in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the NBU expects inflation to return to a path of sustainable decline in the second half of 2025.
According to State Statistics, consumer inflation in Ukraine for the year 2024 increased by 12.0%, with inflation in December standing at 1.4%.
