Ukraine is ready to transport gas to Europe, but there's a catch: what is Zelensky proposing?

There is a possibility of exporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
Украина готова поставлять газ в Европу, но есть нюанс: какие предложения выдвигает Зеленский?

Ukraine is prepared to transport gas through its territory to Slovakia and other European countries, provided that this gas is not Russian. Reports TSN. This information has been shared by Kontrakty.UA.

This was emphasized by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a joint press conference with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

He noted that Ukraine has never refused to transit gas from other countries, but not from Russia.

"I said: no, there will be no continuation of the contract for Russian gas! Legally, we are not violating anything. Morally, we are absolutely right. Legally and morally. And we are not allowing the Russians to profit," Zelensky stated.

He also spoke about his meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in Davos, where the leaders discussed the possibility of exporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

According to Zelensky, Azerbaijan's gas production is "very large," amounting to about 40 billion cubic meters, of which 14-15 billion are used for domestic needs.

“Currently, the export capacity [from Azerbaijan] is 25 billion cubic meters. And we talked about him being able to export. By the way, he exports his gas to many countries. We can also utilize our infrastructure if other countries, including those in Eastern Europe, need gas, and not specifically Russian gas," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine and Azerbaijan have excellent relations, which means a contract can be signed quite quickly to establish the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Slovakia, Moldova, and other European countries.

As previously reported, on January 1 at 07:00, Ukraine halted the transportation of Russian natural gas through its territory in the interest of national security.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, stated that due to the cessation of gas transit from the Russian Federation, Bratislava will implement "adequate measures".

It should be noted that earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico shamelessly refused the proposal to adapt the country to the absence of Russian gas transit and resorts to lies.
