In November, food prices surged rapidly, particularly in key categories. However, December is expected to bring a slight pause in this increase — at least for the first two weeks. According to TSN. This information is reported by Kontakty.UA.
This forecast was made by Oleg Pendzin, the executive director of the Economic Discussion Club, during an interview with the publication "Hlavred".
Nonetheless, the calm in the food market will not last long. Starting from December 15, Ukrainians should prepare for a new wave of price hikes. This time, prices will soar for popular products for the festive table.
"We expect a plateau in price growth for about two weeks in December. Later, starting from December 15, prices will begin to rise again. Initially, the prices for those goods that previously increased the least will rise, specifically meat, smoked products, meat products, and fish. Eggs will also become more expensive. All of this will occur before the holidays when Ukrainians stock up on products," Pendzin stated.
Price increases ahead of the winter holidays are a traditional phenomenon. The primary reason is heightened demand. People begin to actively purchase food for the New Year's table, which creates additional pressure on the market. The highest prices are anticipated in the second half of December, closer to the New Year.
Currently, chicken eggs cost on average 63–64 hryvnias per dozen, but this stability will not last long. Meat, smoked products, and fish are other categories that will first feel the price impact. The good news for consumers is that after the New Year rush, prices are expected to stabilize. According to forecasts, the first decade of January will bring what is referred to as a "price plateau."
Demand will decrease, as most Ukrainians will have already spent a significant portion of their funds on the holidays.
