By the end of winter, prices for meat, milk, and some vegetables in Ukraine may rise. The reason for this trend is the costs associated with product storage, along with inflation. This was stated by Denis Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agricultural Council, during an appearance on "Day.LIVE". According to UNIAN. This information was reported by Kontrakty.UA.

"Throughout December, January, February, and partially March, prices may increase by 10-15% depending on the categories. What are these product categories? They include meat, milk, vegetable groups, and fruits," the specialist stated.

The expert added that during this period, Ukraine relies on imported fruits, so the price of these will depend on the exchange rate of the hryvnia to the dollar. Currently, a decline in the national currency's exchange rate can be observed.

It is worth noting that this year, the food situation has been complicated by abnormal weather conditions in the summer, which led to significant crop losses. This has particularly impacted the prices of certain vegetable categories, especially potatoes. For instance, a kilogram of vegetables in October cost nearly three times more than it did a year ago.

"In some southern regions, losses during the peak ripening period reached 30%," Marchuk pointed out.

Food prices - what do other specialists say

Earlier, UNIAN reported on whether further increases in vegetable prices are expected. Coordinator of the EastFruit Weekly Ukraine project, Oleksandr Khorev, stated that cabbage in Ukraine is 170% more expensive than last year. Carrot prices have risen by 120%.

The specialist added that during the last autumn, winter, and early spring months, our country imports over 90% of its greenhouse tomato and cucumber needs. As of mid-December, cucumbers and tomatoes cost 40% more than they did last year.

At the same time, economic expert and candidate of sciences in public administration, Yuriy Havrylechenko, noted that due to the "historic" tax increases, domestic food products may become more expensive than imported ones.
