The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, has delivered the first new wheeled howitzer RCH 155 to Ukraine, which is expected to bolster Ukrainian artillery.
This is reported by
Tagesschau.
The handover ceremony took place in Kassel, where the armored vehicle manufacturer KNDS produces these weapon systems. Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeiev was also present.
Germany has delivered the first howitzer as part of military assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing its readiness to support Ukraine in its struggle. Pistorius stated that Germany is prepared to take on responsibility in Europe.
The first six of these systems will remain in Germany for training Ukrainian soldiers, and by 2027, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive a total of 36 such howitzers.
The RCH 155 is a modern self-propelled artillery system with automatic loading, capable of firing both conventional and precision munitions at distances of up to 54 km. It is characterized by high accuracy, a rapid firing rate (up to 9 rounds per minute), and the capability for remote operation. The system features high mobility and provides crew protection thanks to the Boxer wheeled platform.
Previously, Germany had already
provided Ukraine with a package of military aid, which included howitzers, vehicles, and hundreds of drones.
We also reported that even amid a political crisis, if the Bundestag
cannot approve the budget for 2025, Ukraine will receive the majority of the planned €4 billion in aid.
