Shmyhal and the Icelandic Foreign Minister discussed the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Iceland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Þórgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, held a meeting.

The parties discussed the issues of confiscating frozen Russian assets and combating Russia's shadow fleet.

This was addressed during a meeting in Kyiv, as reported by the head of the government in a Telegram post.

“We paid special attention to the issue of confiscating frozen Russian assets. We discussed strengthening sanctions, particularly the need to make maximum efforts to combat Russia's shadow fleet,” he wrote.

The parties also talked about Iceland's contribution to Ukrainian arms production under the "Danish model," noted Shmyhal. Ukraine hopes for further increases in investments for the security of our state and all of Europe.

The Prime Minister invited Icelandic companies to participate in recovery projects as well.

The head of the Ukrainian government described the meeting as "constructive" and emphasized: “It is important that the first foreign visit of a representative of the new Icelandic government is to Ukraine.”

Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support of our state’s European and Euro-integration path, as Iceland actively participates in initiatives aimed at achieving a just peace and coalitions in support of Ukraine.

“We especially value Iceland's leadership in the Demining Coalition and in establishing the International Register of Losses. We are thankful to the Icelandic people for their solidarity and assistance provided to Ukraine since the very first days of Russia's large-scale armed invasion,” he added.

Let us remind you that today, January 7, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Þórgerðr Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, arrived in Kyiv, marking her first visit to Ukraine in this role.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga thanked Iceland for its recent contribution to the production of Ukrainian weapons under the "Danish model."
