However, the dollar exchange rate has increased by 10.6% over the year, resulting in a decrease in the average pension in dollar terms to 138 dollars.
In Ukraine, data from the State Statistics Service regarding the average pension is available from 1996 to 2018. In recent years, the information has been published by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
The data indicates that in 1997, the pension amounted to 52 hryvnias. By 2025, it had increased 111 times to 5,789 hryvnias.
However, during this period, the dollar exchange rate rose 22 times - from 1.9 to 42 UAH/USD.
Thus, the dollar pension of Ukrainians has increased fivefold from 27 to 138 dollars.
The highest increase was recorded in 2004 when pensions nearly doubled from 34 to 60 dollars. However, after the start of Russia's war against Ukraine in 2014, pensions fell from 191 to 100 dollars.
After the full-scale invasion in 2022, pensions changed insignificantly, but they are not increasing.
It is worth noting that in 2024, the dollar salary exceeded the pre-war level, reaching 532 dollars. Read about how Ukrainian salaries have changed over the last 30 years in the RBK-Ukraine article.
