Starting from January 1, 2025, gas transportation tariffs for domestic consumers in Ukraine will quadruple. This is reported by TCN, citing Kontrakty.UA.
According to LIGA.net, this information comes from a meeting of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NERC).
Thus, from the new year, the tariff for gas transportation will increase from 124.16 to 501.97 UAH per 1000 cubic meters, which is nearly a 305% rise. This decision is explained by the cessation of Russian gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
"In 2024, 85% of our revenue comes from the transportation of gas originating from the Russian Federation. This means that only 15% is what we receive from domestic customers. The tariff increase is insufficient for full compensation, but we agree; we understand that Ukraine's economy requires balanced decisions," said Dmitry Lippa, the CEO of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.
He assured that the Gas Transmission System Operator has taken all necessary measures to reduce costs. In particular, compressor stations are being closed and put on standby, and the number of staff and expenses are being optimized.
It is worth noting that on January 1, 2025, Ukraine will halt the transit of Russian gas.
