Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have been rising for the third consecutive week and reached 80-100 UAH/kg by the end of last week, which is 29% higher than last year's figures.

According to Ukrinform, analysts from the EastFruit project report this.

“Under the current circumstances, sellers have the opportunity to continue raising the wholesale prices for existing batches of cucumbers. Closer to the weekend, they are selling this product in the range of 80-100 UAH/kg (1.94-2.42 USD/kg), which is on average 24% more expensive than at the end of last week,” the message states.

Market operators say that the prices for greenhouse cucumbers are increasing due to a shortage of this product in Ukraine, as the supply of cucumbers from local farms is limited. At the same time, the demand for greenhouse vegetables from buyers remains moderate and stable.

Importers indicate that they are ready to start purchasing cucumbers from Turkey due to a significant reduction in supply from Ukrainian farms. Imported cucumbers usually begin to arrive on the domestic market in the second half of October, when the supply of local vegetables decreases. The largest volumes of imports come to Ukraine in the first two months of winter when domestic production is virtually absent.

As of today, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are already on average 29% more expensive than on the corresponding date last year.

Experts believe that farms can continue to raise prices for their products if the current sales pace is maintained. They predict price stabilization with the beginning of shipments of the first substantial batches of cucumbers from foreign markets.

As reported, last week in Ukraine, prices for white cabbage fell by 16% due to an oversupply of products in the market, especially among late-ripening varieties that are suitable for long-term storage.
