According to Ukrinform, citing the Department of Communication of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, this was stated by the authorized representative on issues related to persons missing under special circumstances, Artur Dobroserdov, during the conference “Discussion and Implementation of Effective Solutions Aimed at Improving the Process of Identification of Bodies (Remains).”

Dobroserdov reported that active communication is underway with international organizations to enhance cooperation and obtain assistance. He also noted that a Unified Body (Remains) Identification Center is currently being established, making the implementation of a standardized numbering system for all bodies in Ukraine a crucial issue.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Tymchenko, there is currently a significant number of unidentified bodies, thus requiring coordinated efforts from all structural units, investigators, and experts to ensure that the work on identifying deceased individuals does not stall at any stage.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to strengthen the capabilities of expert services, training new specialists to expedite the identification of bodies of defenders that arrive in Ukraine through the repatriation process,” he noted.

Head of the Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Serhiy Krymchuk, informed that over the past year, more than 100 new experts have joined the relevant laboratories of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He stated that the dynamics of research on repatriated bodies (remains) has increased.

In addition, representatives from the National Police, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health, the Security Service, and the Office of the Prosecutor General discussed problematic issues that arise during the identification of bodies (remains) returned through repatriation.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2022-2023, five forensic medical examination bureaus were involved in working with bodies, but in 2024, examinations for repatriated bodies (remains) were conducted in 19 forensic medical examination bureaus.

Deputy Minister of Health Igor Kuzin stated that among the priority issues for 2025 is the updating of the technical condition of the forensic medical examination bureaus.

As reported, on January 24, during repatriation activities, 757 bodies (remains) of fallen soldiers were returned to Ukraine.
