This was reported by the press service of UZ, as conveyed by Ukrinform.
“The active phase of construction of the European railway between Chop and Uzhhorod is ongoing. Within this project, Ukrzaliznytsia is replacing the broad gauge track, leveling it on the stretch between Strumkivka and Chop, where a European gauge track will also be laid in parallel. To date, 3.5 km of tracks have been laid out of the 8.3 km required,” the statement reads.
Work on the specified section is expected to be completed this year. Additionally, a bridge has been repaired, and the relevant communications are being updated.
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that there will be two parallel tracks functioning between Uzhhorod and Chop: the broad gauge – 1,520 mm and the European gauge – 1,435 mm. The total cost of the project is 1.3 billion UAH, 50% of which is financed by the EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) fund. Ukrzaliznytsia was able to implement this project as a result of successful participation in the CEF project selection competition in 2022.
As reported, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" transported 2.2 million passengers in long-distance services in September 2024.
