Ukrzaliznytsia has commenced the modernization of locomotives at its own factory.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.

“Practically every enemy strike on the energy infrastructure forces railway workers to bring dozens of locomotives onto the tracks to replace electric locomotives. It is currently impossible to quickly acquire this rolling stock, so Ukrzaliznytsia is gradually restoring the fleet that is still subject to repair,” the company explained.

It is noted that the first locomotive of this series was repaired at the end of last year, which took more than four months.

During the modernization, railway workers manufactured spare parts that were unavailable on the market. In particular, the locomotive's bogie, brake lever transmission, compressor, traction electric motor, central air system, and more were repaired.

Additionally, for the major repair of the locomotive, a diesel muffler, brake transmission pull, specialized tools for disassembling components and aggregates, etc., were produced. Special attention was paid to the comfort of the train drivers.

Ukrzaliznytsia added that this rolling stock was previously repaired at a private enterprise.

As reported, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" in 2024 launched 10 new cars built in Ukraine into service.
