Before the war began in Ukraine, the demand for new cars declined: in 2013, Ukrainians bought 213.3 thousand vehicles, with the most popular brands being Hyundai, ZAZ, KIA, Geely, and Toyota.
In 2014, after the war started, the demand for new cars halved to 97 thousand. The top brands remained almost unchanged: Toyota, Geely, ZAZ, Hyundai, and Volkswagen.
In 2015, interest in new cars decreased further, with sales reaching only 46.5 thousand vehicles. The top brands were Toyota, Renault, ZAZ, Nissan, and Ford.
In 2016, the market recovered, and Ukrainians bought 65.6 thousand new cars, with the most popular brands being Toyota, Renault, Volkswagen, KIA, and Skoda.
In 2017 and 2018, sales stabilized at 82.2 thousand and 81.9 thousand cars, respectively. During these years, the leaders were Toyota, Renault, and Volkswagen.
In 2019, 88.4 thousand vehicles were purchased in Ukraine, while in 2020, 85.5 thousand. The top five popular brands changed to Renault, Toyota, KIA, Skoda, and Nissan.
In 2021, Ukrainians bought over 103 thousand new cars, which is 20.8% more than in 2020. The most popular brands remained Toyota, Renault, KIA, Skoda, and Nissan.
In 2022, during the full-scale war, the new car market shrank by 63.3% to 37.9 thousand vehicles, marking the worst result in the last decade. The most popular brands continued to be Toyota, Renault, Skoda, Hyundai, and Volkswagen.
In 2023, the market rebounded with 61 thousand cars sold (+60.6%), with Ukrainians spending over 105.5 billion hryvnias on them. The most popular brands became Toyota, Renault, Volkswagen, Skoda, and BMW. Every third car was white.
In 2024, Ukrainians bought 69.8 thousand new cars, which is a 14.7% increase compared to 2023, spending over 125 billion hryvnias. The sales leaders were Toyota, Renault, Skoda, Volkswagen, and BMW. The most common colors were white, gray, black, blue, and green.
