Ukrainians have selected the most suitable economic model for their country.

More than half of Ukrainians (59%) support a market economy. They prefer an economic system in Ukraine that is primarily regulated by market forces, with citizens' incomes being determined by their own efforts and skills in the labor market.
Украинцы выбрали оптимальную экономическую модель для своей страны.

This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing survey data from the "Democratic Initiatives" foundation and KMIS. This information is also shared by Kontrakty.UA.

State regulation of the economy is supported by 31% of respondents. These individuals agree that the economy should primarily be regulated by the state, and that citizens' incomes should be redistributed through high taxation of wealthier segments of the population.

Market regulation of the economy, where citizens' incomes depend on their own efforts, is most supported by respondents living in western regions (65%), while it is least supported by respondents from eastern regions (50%). The difference in the frequency of choosing this response option between respondents from different macro-regions is mainly due to a larger proportion of respondents from eastern regions who were unable to select one response option from those provided.

Extremely poor and poor respondents are more likely to support state market regulation and redistribution through higher taxation of wealthy individuals than conditionally secure and secure respondents: 38% and 37% compared to 26% and 25%, respectively. However, even among poor and extremely poor respondents, a relative majority prefers a free market and relying on their own efforts.

The survey was conducted by the "Democratic Initiatives" Foundation in cooperation with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from December 6, 2024, to January 9, 2025. A total of 2,580 respondents aged 18 and older were surveyed, residing in government-controlled territories of Ukraine, except for Donetsk, Sumy, and Kherson regions, where the survey was not conducted due to security restrictions.

Recall that the demand for authoritarianism in Ukraine during the war has fallen by half. In the fall of 2022, only 11.5% of Ukrainians believed that under certain circumstances, an authoritarian regime could be better than a democratic one.
