This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General, as conveyed by Ukrinform.
“According to the investigation, a father and his older son, who left for abroad at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, decided to arrange the kidnapping of the younger son due to financial disagreements. The latter was involved in cryptocurrency,” the statement reads.
To this end, they sought out perpetrators among the residents of Zaporizhzhia. According to the plan of the instigators, the man was to be kidnapped and tortured to force him to hand over a flash drive containing access to a cryptocurrency wallet, which allegedly held 500,000 dollars.
Subsequent events unfolded under the supervision of law enforcement.
“The perpetrators staged a kidnapping of the victim and sent his older brother bloody photos of him. After receiving the photos, the father called his ex-wife asking for help to free their child, but on one condition – the flash drive had to be handed over and money transferred to the criminals for the release,” the Office of the Prosecutor General reported.
Currently, the issue of announcing suspicion against the father and the older son for extortion (part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code) is being resolved. Materials are being prepared for their announcement in the wanted list.
The case was investigated by the National Police.
As previously reported, a group of criminals was arrested in Kyiv, who, posing as “law enforcement officers,” threatened a crypto businessman to transfer 250,000 dollars to them.
