According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Ukraine formally notified its international partners about this decision.
"We have stopped the transit of Russian gas; this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets and will face financial losses. Europe has already decided to abandon Russian gas. The European initiative Repower EU encompasses exactly what Ukraine has done today," emphasized Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
As of January 1st, the gas transportation system of Ukraine is operating without the transit of Russian gas. The infrastructure of the gas transportation system has been adequately prepared to function in a zero-transit mode while ensuring reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers, noted the Ministry of Energy.
As reported by Ukrinform, the European Commission confirmed that Europe is ready to cease the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine starting January 1, 2025.
