In the war between Russia and Ukraine, 73 scouts have lost their lives.

These data, as of February 24, 2025, were published on the official page of the National Scout Organization of Ukraine, Plast, on Facebook, as reported by Ukrinform.

“Russian aggression has taken the lives of 73 scouts. We will never forget! We are grateful to our Heroes who stood firm and did not break their oath. We continue to do everything in our power in memory of you and for a peaceful, bright future for Ukraine,” the statement reads.

According to reports, “Plast” is the National Scout Organization of Ukraine, which began its activities in Lviv in 1911. The founders of Plast include the son of Ivan Franko – Petro, future colonel of the Sich Riflemen Ivan Chmola, and educator Oleksandr Tysohovskyi. In the 1930s, the Polish authorities banned Plast, and the organization operated underground. With the arrival of Soviet power, Plast expanded beyond the borders of Ukraine. Today, there are branches in nearly 30 countries around the world.

Many scouts participated in the national liberation movement throughout the 20th century and continue to defend Ukraine's borders today. The main task of Plast remains the comprehensive education of patriotic, self-reliant youth based on Christian principles.
