In the Turkish hotel where 78 people lost their lives, the fire alarm system was non-functional.

At the time of the fire at the Kartalkaya ski resort in Turkey, where 78 people lost their lives, the fire alarm system was not operational.
В турецком отеле, где погибли 78 человек, не работала пожарная сигнализация.

This information has come to light from a statement made by the hotel owner, as reported by Ukrinform, citing TRT Haber.

“He admitted that the fire alarm was not functioning at the time of the fire. He also mentioned that there was no sprinkler system (fire suppression – ed.),” the statement from Grand Kartal hotel owner Halit Ergül reveals.

It is noted that the hotel owner blamed all staff members for the fire, from the head chef to the security guards.

“The responsibility for the fire alarm buttons lies with the hotel electrician… When the hotel was being built, a sprinkler system was not deemed necessary. There was a fire alarm system, but it apparently was not operational because it was damaged at the beginning of the fire,” he stated.

The hotel electrician, Hüseyin Özer, on his part, disagreed with the accusations directed at him.

“I do not have technical knowledge regarding fire alarm systems and protection. These fire safety systems are handled by an external subcontractor. I am just an electrician; my technical supervisor is authorized in the field of electrical engineering. I simply carry out the assigned tasks,” he explained.

According to the hotel owner, the blame for the situation also falls on the head chef, kitchen staff, and the private security company.

As reported by Ukrinform, as a result of the fire at the hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort on the night of January 21, 78 people lost their lives (initially reported as 79), and 51 individuals were injured. Approximately 10 people are still receiving treatment. In the investigation into the cause of the fire, 18 individuals have been arrested.
