The diplomatic mission noted that the international initiative "Taras Willow" is taking place in honor of the 210th anniversary of the birth of the Ukrainian writer and artist Taras Shevchenko. Switzerland has become the sixth country where such a willow will grow.

“Representatives of the Ukrainian community and local Swiss authorities gathered in Bruno Weber Park to plant a symbol of our Ukraine, the spiritual strength of the people, and love for the native land,” the post states.

Advisor to the embassy, Samvel Arustamyan, emphasized that the willow in Ukrainian culture is a traditional symbol of longing and sorrow, but also of rebirth and a spiritual connection to the homeland.

4

“In Shevchenko's poetry, the willow appears as an image that highlights the connection between a person and nature, their homeland, and folk traditions. Today, we have the opportunity to showcase Ukrainian tradition here in Switzerland,” he said.

The embassy expressed gratitude to the organizers for the implementation of this significant historical event, namely: Ukrainischer Chor PERESPIV (Schweiz), the Ukrainian Society in Switzerland, UVZO - Ukrainischer Verein Zentral und Ostschweiz, Stadt Dietikon, and representatives of the Ukrainian community.

It is worth noting that on the eve of Palm Sunday, the Ukrainian community in the central square of the Swiss city of Neuchâtel gathered to celebrate the arrival of spring.
