According to the Ministry of Interior of South Korea, last year, 242,334 children were born in the country, which is a 3.1% increase compared to the previous year.
This marks the first annual rise in birth rates in South Korea after eight consecutive years of decline.
It is noted that the total registered population of the country at the end of last year was 51,217,221 people.
This figure has been decreasing for five consecutive years since 2020.
As reported by Ukrinform, South Korea recorded 6% fewer newborns in the first quarter of last year compared to the same period the previous year, while the mortality rate is on the rise.
