“The government of Colombia informs that we have emerged from the 'deadlock' in relations with the government of the United States,” the statement reads.
It notes that the head of the foreign affairs department, Luis Gilberto Murillo, will travel to Washington in the coming hours to meet with American officials, exchange diplomatic notes, and discuss the further implementation of agreements between the two parties.
“We will continue to accept Colombians returning to the country in a deported status, ensuring them dignified conditions as citizens with their rightful entitlements,” the document emphasizes.
The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that the government of Colombia, under President Gustavo Petro, intends to send a presidential plane to assist in the return of compatriots who were scheduled to arrive in the country this morning from the U.S. on two deportation flights.
