A fatal accident occurred in Kyiv involving a minibus and a passenger car.

The Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv reported this on Facebook, as conveyed by Ukrinform.

The traffic incident occurred on the evening of March 1 at the intersection of Voskresensky and Alisher Navoi avenues.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Peugeot car became trapped. Rescuers extricated him and handed him over to medical personnel for hospitalization.

According to preliminary data, the passenger of the minibus and the female passenger of the car were freed before the arrival of the SES. The female passenger succumbed to her injuries in the ambulance.

The rescuers disconnected the battery terminals and the gas cylinder of the car.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by law enforcement.

The capital police informed on Facebook that, according to preliminary data, the driver of the public transport vehicle was turning left at the intersection and collided with the Peugeot, which was moving in the opposite direction on a green traffic light.

The bus driver was detained by the police in accordance with procedural law; the man was sober.

Investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person operating a vehicle, resulting in the death of the victim or causing serious bodily harm. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
