According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Facebook by the Ukrainian consulate in Thessaloniki.
“This project is particularly significant for the large Ukrainian community in the Central Macedonia region and has been implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the Mayor of Konstantinos Vorgiadis, and the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Central Public Library of Veria, Katerina Dzimpu,” the post states.
As reported, this is the second library in Northern Greece where Ukrainian literature is widely available to the public in Ukrainian, Greek, and English.
“Thus, our compatriots in this historically important city of Greece and in Central Macedonia as a whole will have the opportunity to maintain connections with their homeland, while Greek readers will learn more about our state and its diverse cultural and literary heritage,” the embassy noted.
Those present at the opening of the “Ukrainian Book Shelf” also had the chance to enjoy a masterful performance by Honored Artist of Ukraine, bandurist Olena Rozumna, as well as the choir of the local Ukrainian community.
“We sincerely thank our charming girls, who, with their exquisite national Ukrainian attire and extraordinarily talented performances of Ukrainian folk and patriotic songs under the direction and accompaniment of our renowned Olena Rozumna, rightly adorned this significant event of public and cultural diplomacy, captivating the audience,” the diplomatic mission expressed their gratitude.
“The Ukrainian Book Shelf” is a project under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, which is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, and the Ukrainian Book Institute.
Recall that in December 2024, the Consul of Ukraine, Yevhen Shkvyra, opened the “Ukrainian Book Shelf” at the Central Municipal Library of the Greek city of Thessaloniki.
