As reported by Ukrinform, the monitoring project EastFruit has provided this information.

Since the beginning of last week, greenhouse cucumbers in the Ukrainian market have decreased in price by an average of 11%, with sales occurring at 90–125 UAH/kg ($2.14-2.98/kg). The week prior, maximum prices in this segment reached up to 140 UAH/kg ($3.34/kg).

Analysts note that there is currently a trend of declining wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers despite the limited supply from local producers.

According to producers, the low trading activity compels them to lower prices. Additionally, the quality of cucumbers is rapidly deteriorating, which is also contributing to the decline in this segment.

It is noted that the primary sales channels for local greenhouse producers are retail networks. At the same time, their representatives, as well as wholesalers, have significantly reduced vegetable purchase volumes due to decreased consumer demand.

“However, despite the significant price drop, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are still being sold at an average of 27% higher than during the same period last year. Market operators indicate that the supply of this product from local producers is quite limited, and supplies from external markets are unstable,” the report states.

Experts predict that most Ukrainian greenhouse producers may introduce new batches of cucumbers closer to the end of February.

As previously reported, last week in Ukraine, wholesale prices for potatoes increased by an average of 12%, reaching 20-30 UAH/kg.
