Trudeau responded to Trump: Canada will never become part of the United States.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that his country will never become part of the United States, despite numerous claims from the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.

“There is absolutely no chance that Canada will become part of the United States,” Trudeau emphasized.

The head of the Canadian government added that working individuals and communities in both countries benefit from being the largest partners in trade and security matters.

BBC notes that the elected U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed the opinion in recent weeks that Canada should become the “51st state of the U.S.”

“You will get rid of this artificial line (the border – ed.) ... It will also be much better for national security. Canada and the United States — it would truly be something,” Trump said at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday.

He also reiterated his threat to impose “substantial” tariffs on Canadian goods if the country does not take measures to enhance security at the shared border with the U.S.
