Trump shared his plans with Republican senators during a closed meeting on Capitol Hill. It is anticipated that many of these actions will commence on inauguration day, January 20, when the new president takes office. Trump's chief advisor, Stephen Miller, presented Republican senators with measures related to border security and immigration control that are likely to be implemented soon.
“There will be a significant number of them,” said Senator John Hoeven, a Republican from New Jersey.
Allies of the newly elected president have prepared a series of executive orders that Trump could swiftly sign on a wide array of issues—from closing the border between the U.S. and Mexico to energy development, federal labor regulations, gender policies in schools, vaccination, and other promises made during his election campaign.
Senators informed by Trump and his team during the Capitol meeting this week expect the new administration to revoke many of the executive orders from Joe Biden's administration while simultaneously introducing their own proposals.
According to the senators, completing the construction of the wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, establishing immigration centers where migrants could be held until deportation—these are all part of a proposal package totaling around $100 billion.
The publication notes that while executive actions are common on the first day of a new president's term, what Trump and his team are planning is unprecedented in the modern world of executive action, as he "prepares to wield power in untested ways, bypassing the legislative apparatus of Congress."
The new president typically signs documents necessary for the official appointment of his cabinet members and administrative staff on his first day.
This week, many candidates for top positions in the Trump administration will undergo hearings in the Senate regarding their confirmation. Traditionally, the Senate begins voting on the president's nominees as soon as he takes office, with some even being confirmed on inauguration day.
As reported by Ukrinform, Donald Trump plans to hold a large “victory rally” on January 19, the day before his inauguration, at the Capital One Arena in Washington.
