Starting from 7:00 PM on January 1, the Russians launched an attack on Ukraine with 72 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and other types of drones from the directions of Bryansk, Oryol, Kursk, and Primorsk-Akhtarsk.
The aerial assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As of 8:30 AM on January 2, the downing of 47 strike drones of the Shahed type and other types of drones in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions has been confirmed.
Due to the active resistance of the Defense Forces, 24 enemy decoy drones were lost in specific locations (without negative consequences).
One UAV remains airborne.
As reported by Ukrinform, during the night of January 2, the air defense forces shot down 10 Russian strike drones of the Shahed type over the skies of the Sumy and Cherkasy regions.
