In the first round of the doubles event, Ukrainians Nadia and Marina Kolb triumphed over American players Hailey Javari and Dalayna Hewitt with a score of 6:4, 1:6, 10:3, as reported by Ukrinform.
For the Kolb sisters, this marked their third match on the WTA tour and their second victory. Nadia and Marina are competing for the first time in a WTA 500 category tournament.
In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian duo will face the winners of the match between Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan and the "neutral" Irina Khromachova against the British-American pair of Emily Appleton and Quinn Gleeson.
The tournament in Merida will conclude on March 2.
