According to Ukrinform, this was stated by the spokesman of the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, during a television broadcast.
“We should not pay attention to the exercises taking place in Belarus, as they are essentially ongoing, and such exercises involving various components of the Armed Forces of Belarus or other security forces are constantly announced and conducted. This was the case in 2022, it was the case in 2023, and this year is no exception. However, we do not observe any movement of equipment or personnel from the Belarusian army units near our border,” Demchenko noted.
At the same time, he pointed out that Belarus continues to escalate the situation with such exercises, claiming that Ukraine poses a threat to Belarus and that they are therefore compelled to enhance their security.
He reminded that since 2022, Belarus has maintained a certain number of its units along the border with Ukraine. These units are located at a certain distance from the border, and their rotation occurs from time to time, with occasional information leaks suggesting that Belarus continues to strengthen or increase its units along the border with Ukraine.
“In fact, this is not the case; we do not observe any strike group positioned on the other side of our border in Belarus,” Demchenko emphasized, adding that there are currently no Russian units on the territory of Belarus.
The spokesman recalled that in 2023, there were 10-12 thousand Russian troops in Belarus under the guise of exercises, but they were gradually withdrawn to participate in the war against Ukraine.
At the same time, he assured that the border with Belarus remains a priority in terms of security, as Belarus continues to be under Russian influence.
Commenting on the nature of the Belarusian military exercises, Demchenko noted that they pertain to the training of territorial defense units.
“These are exercises with territorial defense units. I actually believe that they will not be involved in any active training with shooting, etc.; this is merely a check of the personnel that Belarus may further engage in such territorial defense, including along the border with Ukraine,” the spokesman explained.
Demchenko also noted that Ukraine continues to strengthen its border line. This includes anti-transport trenches, various types of barriers, as well as the construction of fortifications—trench lines, trenches, firing positions, observation posts, and more. According to the spokesman, mining of the most dangerous areas is also ongoing to prevent the movement of enemy equipment, as well as the saturation of this section of the border with video surveillance systems.
“The threat of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups attempting to infiltrate remains for Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions,” the spokesman reported.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus has begun the first gathering with territorial troops in 2025 in the Gomel region, which borders Ukraine. The Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine denied information about the threat of an invasion by regular Belarusian troops.
