Local residents reported that drones attacked the oil depot in the city of Yartsevo, Smolensk region, Russia.
The district head, Roman Zakharov, confirmed the information regarding the attack on the “fuel and energy complex facility” and the subsequent fire. He added that the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) is working at the site to address the aftermath of the attack.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, reported debris from the drone falling onto the territory of the oil depot.
“According to preliminary information, debris from one of the unmanned aerial vehicles fell on the territory of the oil depot. As a result, fuel spillage occurred, and a fire broke out involving fuel and lubricants,” he reported, adding that there is no threat to residential areas.
At the same time, in Kazan, the airport temporarily suspended operations on Tuesday morning to “ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights,” stated Rosaviation representative Artem Korenyako.
“The airport is temporarily not accepting or dispatching flights,” Korenyako informed, noting that aircraft crews, air traffic controllers, and airport services are taking measures to ensure flight safety.
Additionally, the head of the North Ossetia region, Sergey Menyaylo, reported the downing of a drone over a training ground and the closure of the Vladikavkaz airport.
“A drone was shot down by air defense forces over the Shalkhi training ground. There are no casualties or destruction. Since 04:00 AM (local time – ed.), a drone danger alert has been declared in the North Caucasian Federal District. The Vladikavkaz airport is closed for the arrival and departure of aircraft,” he reported.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, on December 26, the airports in Moscow—Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—implemented the “Kover” plan due to the threat of drone attacks.
