Beijing will challenge the 10% tariff at the WTO and implement countermeasures against the U.S.

The Chinese government will challenge the U.S. administration's decision to impose a 10% increase in tariffs on Chinese imports to the United States at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and will implement countermeasures in response.
Пекин оспорит 10% пошлины в ВТО и примет ответные меры против США.

This is stated in a statement from the Ministry of Commerce of China, as reported by Ukrinform.

“On February 1, the White House announced the imposition of a 10% tariff on Chinese goods exported to the United States due to issues such as (synthetic drug – ed.) fentanyl. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute protest regarding this,” the statement reads.

It notes that the unilateral imposition of tariffs by the American side violates WTO rules and will not only fail to resolve the United States' own problems but also harm the economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States.

“In response to the wrongful actions of the United States, China will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization and implement countermeasures to protect its own rights and interests,” the trade department stated.

The Chinese side has urged the United States to “correct its erroneous practices” and address its own issues, including fentanyl, in an objective and rational manner rather than threatening other countries with tariffs.

China calls on the United States… to strengthen cooperation and resolve differences based on equality, mutual benefit, and mutual respect,” the document states.

As reported by Ukrinform, U.S. President Donald Trump signed orders to impose high tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China starting February 1.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the establishment of a 25% tariff on a wide range of American goods.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry published its own statement, expressing outrage over Donald Trump's administration's decision to impose a 10% tariff on Chinese imports and emphasizing that there will be no winners in trade and tariff wars. The statement did not mention any possible measures China might take in response.
