He was born and raised in Ternopil. He attended Ternopil School No. 22. After finishing the eighth grade, he entered the Lviv Military Lyceum with enhanced military training named after the Heroes of Kruty. By 2019, he began his service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the special operations forces.

“Serhiy successfully carried out combat missions in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the area of the Joint Forces Operation as part of a special operations reconnaissance group, for which he was awarded departmental awards and the Ministry of Defense badges — the badge ‘For Exemplary Service’ (2021) and a departmental award ‘Named Firearm’. During the full-scale invasion, he performed combat missions in Chernihiv region as part of a sabotage-reconnaissance group. Since July 2023, he defended the city of Bakhmut as part of his unit,” - said the Ternopil City Council.

Serhiy’s family was his true support and strength. He met his wife Liza in Khmelnytskyi, where he was serving at that time.

“We both had the same breed of dogs – Dalmatians. I had a girl named Shelby, and Serhiy had a boy named Charlie. One day we met while walking our dogs. Of course, we noticed that the dogs were of the same breed. Moreover, Serhiy accidentally let his dog off the leash, and it ran up to mine,” - recalls Liza.

The girl admits that at first, she didn’t feel any affection for her future husband. On the contrary. But Serhiy was persistent and sought every opportunity to meet Liza, trying to get her attention and do something nice for her.

“I probably started to pay attention to Serhiy and changed my attitude towards him when he began to selflessly help me. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he supported me a lot. I felt that I had a person next to me whom I could rely on,” - Liza shares.

In February 2022, Serhiy was immediately sent to Chernihiv region. He was there during the de-occupation of the area. Liza waited for him and maintained contact with him.

“For Serhiy, military service was a lifelong commitment. I understood that I had to accept and come to terms with his choice. Even when I learned about my serious congenital illness, which would lead to disability, and told him that he could be discharged and be with his family, he refused. He said that he had 13 guys under his command who also wanted to be with their families, that he couldn’t leave, that he had a duty to the country and would continue to serve,” - the wife adds.

The military had the call sign “Yakuza” - a name given to him due to the numerous tattoos on his body. Close friends in Ternopil called him “Harik”.

Serhiy and Liza officially married in Chernihiv region - Liza arrived there with their son after the de-occupation. Later, they welcomed a daughter into their family.

“We moved together with Serhiy and lived near his place of service. It was important for me that the family was together. Only when my husband was in Bakhmut did we wait for him from Donetsk region,” - she recounts. - “Serhiy was convinced that he would live a long life and always asked his family not to worry.”

The military died on March 1, 2024, during a combat mission in Sumy region. He was only 30 years old.

“Serhiy's greatest dream that he managed to fulfill was family. He also wanted a house. He loved our children very much and spent all his free time with them. In the future, he dreamed of growing fiber crops, knew a lot about it, and planned to start his own business,” - the girl adds.

Serhiy Tryshkalyuk was buried at the Alley of Heroes in Mykulynetske Cemetery in Ternopil. A memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the house where he spent his childhood in honor of the defender. He was posthumously awarded the ‘Order for Courage III degree’ and recognized as ‘Honorary Citizen of Ternopil City’ and ‘Honorary Citizen of Ternopil Region’.
