Лидер правящей партии Грузии намерен запретить оппозиционную партию «Нацрух» в случае победы на выборах.
The leader of the ruling party in Georgia, "Georgian Dream," Bidzina Ivanishvili, has pledged to ban the main opposition forces in the country if his party secures a constitutional majority in the new parliament following this month's elections.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was conveyed by Echo of the Caucasus.

"The founder and honorary chairman of the party 'Georgian Dream,' Bidzina Ivanishvili, reiterated that the ruling party must achieve a constitutional majority in the new parliament to prohibit the opposition United National Movement," the report states.

The billionaire urged citizens to vote for "Georgian Dream" in the elections on October 26, promising that after the ban on the "National Movement," a new opposition will emerge in the country.

"Once this political force (UNM – ed.) is sidelined, Georgian Dream will have numerous opponents, and I look forward to that day. It will be the happiest day when people will have the opportunity to choose between good and better," he said.

Ivanishvili apologized to the citizens for the fact that their "only choice" right now is the "Georgian Dream" party.

“You will have a choice after this – not Georgian Dream, but something similar and better. There will be as much opposition as we want,” said Ivanishvili.

Additionally, the billionaire harshly criticized former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, threatening to bring his former ally and members of his team to justice:

"This shameless (Gakharia) and those standing next to him will, of course, have to be judged. Naturally, we will prove everything black on white – what he did, why he did it. And how he contributed to the return of the National Movement then and how he is helping today," Ivanishvili added.

As reported by Ukrinform, the next parliamentary elections in Georgia will take place on October 26, 2024.

At the beginning of October, the EU ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herczynski, announced that the institutions of the European Union decided to suspend all high-level meetings with representatives of the Georgian authorities.
