Lakson stated this on social media platform X, as reported by Ukrinform.
“New Zealand remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine, which is defending itself in the war initiated by Russia. This is about reinforcing the defense of a proud, democratic, and sovereign nation, as well as upholding international law,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
As Ukrinform reported, the meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the USA at the White House was prematurely concluded on February 28 after disputes arose regarding the facts of the war in Ukraine, as well as trust in words and agreements with Putin. Additionally, there was no signing of an agreement between the two countries related to mineral extraction.
Following this incident, several European leaders expressed support for Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the situation, stated that such disputes, like the one that occurred at the White House during the meeting with Donald Trump, are detrimental to both sides, but the President of Ukraine cannot “change our, Ukrainian attitude towards the Russians” and does not wish for them to continue killing Ukrainians.
