This was stated during a television broadcast by the spokesperson of the Joint Forces Operation "Khortytsia," Viktor Trehubov, as reported by Ukrinform.
"In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders stopped 42 Russian attacks over the past day. These include the settlements of Baranivka, Myroliubivka, Lysivka, and other locations south of the city. Active fighting has been ongoing there for quite some time. The Russians are trying to move westward, attempting to infiltrate in small groups. Ukrainian forces are stopping them. The Russian attempts to disrupt Ukrainian logistics chains are currently unsuccessful," Trehubov noted.
He added that in the Toretsk direction, there were 12 enemy attacks, and active fighting continues, including in the city’s built-up areas.
In the Kurakhiv direction, as the Russians destroy residential buildings to facilitate their combat operations, Ukrainian forces are striving to inflict as much damage as possible on enemy equipment and personnel, the spokesperson reported.
According to him, the enemy currently lacks the same amount of artillery as before, as well as munitions, partly due to the active use of drones against artillery and counter-battery warfare, along with the availability of more precise striking means within the Defense Forces.
"Now they (the Russians - ed.) are doing the same things but with more primitive methods, even attempting to mine buildings or simply throwing TM (anti-tank mines - ed.) at them by hand. It is evident that once a building is destroyed, it cannot be defended. However, it is also clear that while you approach and destroy that building, you will incur significant losses. ... The Russians do not need people, they do not need resources. The Russians are currently pursuing one objective - to seize territory, regardless of its condition. They are simply pushing forward and destroying everything so that there is nowhere to defend. At the same time, they are suffering significant losses in equipment and personnel," Trehubov explained.
He added that currently, the enemy has less artillery in this direction, leading to fewer shellings. Compared to last year, the enemy is using fewer KABs and army aviation.
"They have become more cautious, realizing that there are means to destroy them, there is counter-battery work, and drones can come in," Trehubov said.
As reported, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were 161 combat engagements at the front over the past day. The total combat losses of the Russian troops in Ukraine from February 24, 2022, to January 10, 2024, amount to approximately 804,930 personnel, including 1,830 personnel over the previous day.
