The NBU sold a record amount of currency to stabilize the exchange rate of the hryvnia.

Demand for foreign currency surged in mid-February 2025. The National Bank ramped up its sales from reserves to address the structural currency deficit, reaching the highest levels seen since the beginning of the year.

During the week of February 17-21, 2025, the NBU sold $1.191 billion on the interbank foreign exchange market.

This represents a 77.8% increase compared to the previous week of February 10-14, when it sold $670.10 million.

In total, since the beginning of the year, the NBU has sold $6.066 billion on the interbank market, which is nearly double the budgetary assistance provided to Ukraine by international partners ($3.1 billion).
