It was noted that hackers managed to gain control over an Ethereum wallet and transfer assets to an undisclosed address. Bybit stated that it would be able to fully cover the losses.
The publication, referencing online analyst ZachXBT, writes that due to a series of suspicious transactions, assets worth approximately $1.46 billion were withdrawn from the exchange's wallet. Research company Arkham Intelligence confirmed an outflow from the exchange amounting to about $1.4 billion.
According to the analytical firm Elliptic, this is the largest cryptocurrency theft, surpassing the $611 million stolen from Poly Network in 2021. Rob Benke, co-founder of Halborn, stated that "this is likely the largest incident, not just among cryptocurrencies."
