A dead lion was discovered at a waste recycling facility in the Rivne region.

In Rivne region, law enforcement officials are investigating the discovery of a lion's body at the Kostopil waste disposal plant.

The police of Rivne region reported this via Telegram, as conveyed by Ukrinform.

"During a monitoring of social media, law enforcement discovered a post stating that a dead lion had been found on the premises of the Kostopil waste disposal plant. Following this, information was promptly entered into the Unified Journal of Statements and Notifications, and an investigation was immediately initiated," the message states.

Preliminary findings by the investigative operational group indicate that the animal died due to cancer. Currently, the police are verifying documents, interviewing the staff of the plant and the zoo to establish all circumstances. The investigation is ongoing.

As reported by Ukrinform, law enforcement in the Kyiv region has opened a criminal proceeding regarding animal cruelty at a shelter.
