Patrick Turner, NATO's senior representative in Ukraine, shared this information in an interview with Ukrinform.
“We are closely monitoring developments (regarding the current state of military assistance from the Alliance to Ukraine – ed.), and I am confident that this and other commitments in key priority areas will be reviewed this week at the NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels, which will be attended by Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, as part of the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting. As you know, the meeting in the 'Ramstein' format had to be postponed. The parties will discuss our positions regarding air defense systems and other priorities,” Turner stated.
The diplomat noted that at both the Washington summit and subsequently, there was an agreement to achieve many things through joint efforts. “At the top of this list of actions compiled in Washington was the collective commitment of Alliance members to provide Ukraine with military assistance of at least 40 billion euros this year,” the diplomat declared.
He reminded that to coordinate assistance to Ukraine, a NATO Assistance Center for Ukraine in the fields of security and training (NSATU) was established in Wiesbaden, expressing hope that the Center will operate at full capacity within a few months.
“The new Secretary General has made it clear that, firstly, we must fulfill what we promised, and secondly, we need to do even more and do it faster, if we are able to do so,” Turner emphasized.
As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last week presented a Victory Plan to the leaders of major European countries and stressed that collective action is necessary right now, within the coming months.
Zelensky also thanked all partners in the Balkans and the Southeast European region for supporting the Peace Formula and the format of the Peace Summit.
