“Canada will respond to the trade actions of the United States by imposing a 25% tariff on American goods worth a total of $155 billion. Specifically, on Tuesday, tariffs will come into effect on goods valued at $30 billion, and subsequently - tariffs on American goods worth an additional $125 billion will be implemented in 21 days, allowing Canadian companies and suppliers to find alternatives,” said the head of the government.

According to him, Canada's reciprocal measures will be far-reaching and will affect many products: American wine, beer, and bourbon, fruits and fruit juices, including orange juice, as well as perfumes, clothing, footwear “and much more.”

“As part of our response, together with the provincial and territorial governments, we are also considering non-tariff actions related, among other things, to critical minerals, energy, public procurement, and other partnerships,” Trudeau emphasized.

At the same time, he added that he hopes Canada and the U.S. “will remain the best neighbors in the world.”
