The death toll from the massive wildfires in Los Angeles County, California, has risen to 29 individuals.
Количество жертв лесных пожаров в Лос-Анджелесе возросло до 29.

This was reported by the county's forensic department, as conveyed by Ukrinform, referencing NBC News.

It is noted that the 29th victim died in the hospital from injuries sustained in a fire in Pacific Palisades, which broke out on January 7 and destroyed thousands of homes in the area and along the Pacific coast.

According to the fire service, the blaze destroyed 6,837 buildings and other structures, and burned an area of 23,448 acres (over 9,000 hectares). Damage assessment teams have nearly completed their inspections, reported the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

As of Monday evening, the fire had been contained to 95%. On the same day, local residents were allowed to return to areas that had previously been under mandatory evacuation.

Another major fire also ignited on January 7 in Los Angeles County. It caused significant destruction in the Altadena community and destroyed homes in Pasadena and Sierra Madre.

According to the interagency fire information center, which includes Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service, this fire destroyed 9,418 homes and structures, and burned an area of 14,021 acres (5,600 hectares). As of Monday, the fire was 98% contained.

Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley described the fires as one of the most devastating disasters in the county's history. She noted that the Santa Ana winds contributed to the spread of the flames and forced the suspension of aerial firefighting efforts.

The causes of both fires are currently under investigation.

As reported by Ukrinform, at the beginning of January, a raging wildfire and powerful storm winds that rapidly fueled the flames posed a serious threat in the outskirts of Los Angeles, where celebrity homes are located. Widespread wildfires have engulfed five areas around Los Angeles, prompting at least 180,000 people to evacuate.

Last week, a new wildfire broke out in Los Angeles County, California, near Lake Castaic, prompting tens of thousands of residents to evacuate from a region that had already experienced devastating fires.
