China believes that recently, a window for peace in Ukraine is truly opening, according to Wang Yi.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi believes that, in light of the recent increase in calls for finding ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war and initiate peace talks, there are genuine opportunities for establishing peace in Ukraine.
Китай считает, что в последнее время действительно открывается окно для мира в Украине, - Ван И.

The minister stated this in an interview with Chinese media following a 10-day tour of the European Union, the USA, and South Africa, as reported by Ukrinform, referencing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

China is neither the creator nor a party to the ‘Ukrainian crisis’ (as it’s referred to in China regarding the war waged by Russia against Ukraine – ed.), but we haven’t been idle. Over the past three years, we have actively promoted peace and dialogue,” declared Wang Yi.

According to him, Beijing has always advocated for resolving the conflict through dialogue and consultations and, notably, last year initiated the ‘Friends of Peace’ initiative in collaboration with Brazil, where Global South countries discuss their vision for ending the war.

“Recently, calls for peace negotiations have been increasing, and the window for peace in Ukraine is indeed opening. Although the positions of all parties are not yet fully aligned, dialogue is always better than confrontation, and peace negotiations are always preferable to war,” Wang Yi noted.

“China supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace and hopes that the parties involved will find sustainable and long-term solutions that consider each other’s concerns,” added the Chinese top diplomat.

He assured that China will continue to play a constructive role in the political resolution of the ‘Ukrainian crisis’.

China declares neutrality regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war and calls for a cessation of hostilities and negotiations to resolve disputed issues. On the first anniversary of the Russian invasion in February 2023, Beijing released its position, a “12-point plan,” which first emphasized respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. In May, it sent a special government representative, Li Hui, to the EU, Ukraine, and Russia with the mission of finding ways to end the war, which ultimately ended in failure.

In May of last year, China and Brazil published a “6-point peace plan” that does not mention sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries; instead, it calls for an immediate ceasefire, which solidifies the aggressor country Russia’s control over temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. In August, at the UN General Assembly, Beijing and Brasilia announced the ‘Friends of Peace’ initiative.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizes the importance of involving China in pressuring the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war.
