According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Canadian public broadcaster CBC News, citing its informed sources.
“The list includes hundreds of products manufactured in the U.S. that Canada could impose tariffs on in response. American steel products, ceramics including toilets and sinks, glassware, flowers, and various types of plastics could be potential targets for retaliatory tariffs,” the report states.
At the same time, a source from the publication emphasized that a final list of products has not yet been approved. “Many steel products that may be subject to tariffs are produced in key 'swing' states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. The tariff on orange juice from Florida is intended to send a signal to the state where Trump resides and where the new center of power in the U.S. is currently located,” CBC News claims.
The government has not yet decided whether to publicly release this list in advance to avoid provoking the elected president. “Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's circle is increasingly convinced that the elected president will stick to his promise of imposing a 25% import tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico,” the article notes.
As reported by Ukrinform, following his election victory in November, Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico, as well as significantly increase tariffs for China.
At the end of November, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau traveled to the state of Florida to meet with Donald Trump and discuss tariff policy. He conveyed the message that such actions would harm not only Canadians but also Americans, where prices would immediately rise, and both industry and business would suffer.
