HAMAS has confirmed the death of its military commander following an Israeli airstrike.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, have confirmed the death of their commander, Mohammed Deif, along with his deputy, Marwan Issa.
ХАМАС подтвердил смерть своего военного командира в результате авиаудара Израиля.

This was reported by Reuters, as conveyed by Ukrinform.

According to the publication, in August last year, Israeli military announced that they had eliminated Deif as a result of an airstrike in the Khan Younis area of Gaza.

It is believed that Deif and Issa, who was also declared dead by Israel in March, orchestrated the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza.

It is noted that Deif was an elusive figure with a long but secretive career in the Palestinian group, which Israel had been searching for over decades.

The "Al-Qassam" Brigades also announced the death of three other senior members of their general military council, as stated by the group's spokesperson Abu Ubaida in an address.

As reported by Ukrinform, on October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 individuals and taking several hundred hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation against the militants.

On January 18, the Israeli government approved an agreement for a ceasefire with the Hamas group in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.

On January 30, within the framework of the third stage of exchange between Israel and Hamas, Palestinian militants transferred Israeli soldier Agam Berger to representatives of the Red Cross, followed by seven more hostages. In turn, Israel released 110 Palestinian prisoners.
