Duda: It would be a catastrophic mistake for the West to agree to give Russia even a centimeter of Ukrainian land.

Дуда: Это будет катастрофической ошибкой, если Запад согласится отдать России хоть сантиметр украинской земли.
Kyiv must receive everything necessary from the West to achieve victory in its defensive war against Russia. The West's agreement to transfer any part of Ukrainian territory to Russia would be a "catastrophic mistake."

This was stated in an interview with the British publication The Sunday Times by Polish President Andrzej Duda, as reported by Ukrinform with reference to Bankier.pl.

The Polish leader emphasized that despite various political disputes between Poland and Ukraine, he remains firm in his stance: Kyiv must obtain all that is needed for a complete victory in its defensive war against Russia, which is crucial for both Kyiv and all of Europe. Duda stressed that any agreement from the West to cede even a centimeter of Ukrainian land to Russia would be a "catastrophic mistake."

In response to a question about whether Ukraine can realistically reclaim all occupied territories given Russia's significant numerical advantage, the President of Poland said: "If you are so generous to Russia, then why not give them a piece of your land?"

"On what basis, I must ask, does Russia deserve anything, especially foreign territory?" - emphasized the President of the Republic of Poland.

Duda highlighted that the "Eastern Shield" project currently being implemented by Poland is a "new version of the Iron Curtain."

"Some politicians in the West view this with horror. The last thing they want to see is the restoration of the Iron Curtain. I will say this: if the safety of my compatriots must be ensured by raising the Iron Curtain again, then fine, there will be an Iron Curtain. The main thing is that we are on its free side," Duda emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, Warsaw plans to build 700 km of fortifications, detection and warning systems, advanced bases, logistical hubs, and counter-drone systems along its border with Russia and Belarus by 2028 as part of the large-scale "Eastern Shield" program.

In an interview with Ukrinform, the temporary chargé d'affaires of Poland in Ukraine, Piotr Lukasiewicz, stated that the "Eastern Shield" project is intended to protect against invasions from Russia and Belarus and is based on Ukrainian experience.

In 2022, Poland constructed a 5.5-meter high and 186 km long barrier on its border with Belarus, as well as implemented a modern electronic monitoring system.

This was a response to the artificial migration pressure created by Belarus and Russia at the border with Poland and the Baltic states since the summer of 2021.
