He made this statement during a conversation with journalists at Stansted Airport following his visit to the United Kingdom, as reported by Ukrinform.
“If I am to be replaced, … it won’t be easy right now. It’s not enough just to hold elections; I also need to be prevented from participating in them. That’s a bit more complicated. It turns out that an agreement has to be reached with me. And I have stated that I will exchange (my position) for (Ukraine’s membership in) NATO. This means I have fulfilled my task. If there is NATO and the war is over, then I have accomplished my mission,” – Zelensky explained.
He also noted that such statements appear “as if citizens of other countries are telling Ukrainians who their president should be.”
“Especially when these individuals hold official positions. It seems unconstructive and undemocratic. We are talking about values,” – the head of state remarked.
As Ukrinform reported, earlier during this conversation with journalists, Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine has no intention of relinquishing its temporarily occupied territories.
